Regent Tweet!

Regent Street held it's third annual Regent Tweet (quirky huh) event last Sunday (June 23rd). It was an event especially for bloggers all over Europe who were invited to come to Regent Street, shop and tweet.
The event included special discounts for the bloggers to encourage then to buy (not really hard there especially for fashion bloggers)

A lucky chosen few got special discounts and entered into competitions to win prices and spa treatments. A few guest speakers also attended such as the writer Christopher Riley and Sadhna Jain to impart some of their wisdom to the event.

The event started on at Swarovski Crystallised (the base camp for the day) where bloggers picked up their first goodie back and then were left to wonder around and of course tweet about the event all day. Some of the other goodies on offer were free flip flops from UGG and complimentary blow dries from Four London - Lucky Bloggers!

You can search the hashtag #RegentTweet on both twitter and instagram to see some more pictures from the day and I'm sure if you follow some of the lucky bloggers that attended, they'll be posting about it sure enough this week!

London Collections Round Up

As I'm sure you're well aware, the London Collections took place last week and into this week. I won't bore you with a complete low down as you've probably read it everywhere and anywhere by now, but thought I'd let you know a few of my personal favs from the couple of days.

From Sunday, I absolutely LOVED the Jonathan Saunders show, there was one jacket in particular, that had the best array of colours in a waved pattern through out it, that just stood out for me. And a metallic neon yellow bomber which was just amazing.

Another designer that stood out for me was Shaun Samson. There was just something about the contrasting soft pink colours against the harsh blacks and greys as well as his use of silver, because we all know I can't get enough of silver. Did I say I liked silver? The flowy, almost feminine lines was really nice to see also.

If someone said they didn't enjoy one of Burberrys shows, they'd be lying. I really liked how each model had their own man-clutch or quant back pack, which worked so effortlessly well with Christopher Baileys clean sophisticated style. The colours were so preppy and clean, it all just worked so well together.

I really love how the BFC have integrated the London Collections into a main fashion event. As I said in my previous post about the fashionistas that are forever hungry for more, it bridges the gap between the major September and January weeks. I'm not a big Menwears fan, but I really did enjoying looking what each designer had to offer. As well as the clothes, the fashion show sets for me were interesting to see, especially Alexander McQueen who never fails to deliver something just a tad out of the ordinary as well as Saville Row with their cricket ground setting.

All About The Pre-Fall

Pre-fall collections bridge the gap between spring/summer and autumn/winter collections, a way of giving the industry a taster before the autumn/winter collection drops.

These collections have been gaining momentum over the last couple of years, gaining more coverage by blogs and the industry with companies such as Browns spending 70% of its budget on it, rather than waiting for the full collection. But why is this I hear you say? Is it an excuse for fashion to be shown more than just the September and January fashion weeks or just to earn them some more dosh?

Typically pre-fall collections hit the shops in May compared to Fall which is in September. (This can be earlier depending on our english summer time which we all know is so unpredictable.) According to an article in the Telegraph, Pre fall collections are a way of feeding the hungry fashionistas appetites, as waiting 6 months between collections is just not an option. However it is not primarily to show the up coming trends, but for designers to play around with what may be coming in the full Fall collection and to create anticipation for the industry.

Of course you wouldn't be in business if you didn't care about the financial side. So of course this is a way of making more money. Although on a much smaller scale than the full autumn collections, its a way to fill the shelves and sell at full price while summer stock is on sale. This is a way of boosting revenue between seasons, when they usually is a lag. Browns have clearly cottoned onto this as I said, they use 70% on their budget on investing in Pre-fall. Michael Kors told Vogue: 'It's become the season you sell the most clothes.' Clearly a big fan of Pre-fall.

Pre-fall consequently lands itself between the time of the Golden Globes and and The Academy Awards which means only one thing - there are celebrities to be dressed.

It's almost a sport for hard core fashion critics to guess who's going to be wearing what once Pre-fall has been released. With all this said, Pre-fall is definitely making its mark as something not to be messed with. It's seems to be a lot more important to the industry than I first thought, whether it be to predict trends, curve the hunger of those desperate fashionistas or just a myriad of choices for celebrities. So, if this Pre-fall season indicates what fall has to offer, expect lady-like suits, more leather, and lots of scottish tartan!

GFW Ravensbourne 2013

Today was the day!! Ravensbourne were showing at GFW and as I attend the uni, myself and the rest of my class were lucky enough to go to the show. The talent we have at Rave is insane, although not everyone got to show, the lucky chosen few were incredible. Some pieces that really caught my eye and were personal highlights were Sofie Malmgren's holographic clutch and silver cage head pieces. Clearly I have a thing for accessories.

What made it for me along with the clothes was the music. You could tell the song choices were fully thought out to really suit the collections, and it really bought everything together. There was anything from Lil Mama Lipgloss to Fergie London Bridge to Venga Boys - completely amazing! It was a shame we couldn't get any closer then the 5th row but obviously the closer rows were for industry experts and potential employers for the graduates but I still managed to get a few snaps.

As well as a successful day for Fashion BA(hons), Fashion Promotion also won two awards! The first award was for Per Aquum Marketing and went to Sophie Christiansen and the New Media Award went to Rebecca Chambers. It's incredible that Rave are getting recognition as we have such young talent coming in and out of our doors fast. We won't be showing at GFW for another 24 months, which means my year are the next to show - definitely huge boots to fill, but we're up for the challenge; Fash Promo 2015!!
