BRIEF DAY - THURSDAY 10TH APRIL 2014 /
Initially thinking over creating a lead question, break down the topics in fashion that interest me and think I’ll be able to delve deeper into:

Catwalk production
The impact of youths in fashion today
The increase of fashion designers
Brand development

WEDNESDAY 16TH APRIL 2014 /
Narrow ideas down/ think of other ideas-
Fashion and the media – has the development of technologies and the growth of the media and/or introduction of celebrities help build the fashion industry to what it is today? And what does this mean for the future of fashion?

Believe this could be a good topic to go with – Look through ‘The Fashion Reader’ to see if anything is mentioned, and also look on Amazon, for 'fashion and technology' for more ideas of books to read.

MONDAY 21ST APRIL 2014 /
Refine question, for someone who may misinterpret what I mean by which form of technology.
Has the development of technology, such as being able to stream online and the growth of social media, help build the fashion industry and what does this mean for the future of fashion?

WEDNESDAY 23RD APRIL 2014 /
Sat down with course tutor, to discuss my potential question and gain feed back -
Need to develop the end - what does it mean for the future - of what section of the fashion industry.
Brainstorm potential things I want to find out what it'll mean for.
Got given some good books in terms of technology and fashion - NEED TO BUY

WEDNESDAY 30TH APRIL 2014 /
Bought the books

I created a brain storm of ideas, to further look into my question, what area of the industry I feel is affected most by technology, to help finish of my question
Question has evolved to:
Has the development of digital technology, such as the being able to live stream, and social media, help shape the fashion industry, and what does this mean for the future of fashion promotion?

Has the meaning of promotion change?
promotion tools then - used as records
promotional tools now - enhance the brand image

WEDNESDAY 7TH MAY 2014 /
4/5 of the books I ordered -
Had a brief skim through the Ultimate guide to Link Building, but not enough to gain insight on it yet for research or potential topics to mention in my dissertation.

TUESDAY 14TH MAY 2014 /
Started reading the books -
thinking of rewording my questions as feedback on it at last diss prep meeting was that people didn't understand what I wanted to answer

THURSDAY 15th MAY 2014 /
Found and watch Vogue: Fashion in The Digital Age

From this, I have reworded my question to:

Has the introduction of digital promotion and technology help shape the fashion industry today?

THURSDAY 22nd MAY 2014 /
Last diss prep lesson -
Gained feedback from my tutor who said the question was better worded, and provided a breakdown of what I want to talk about:
Intro - before the digital revolution in fashion promotion
print and still to moving image and social media
- brands merging - such as burberry collaboration with iPhone 5 launch, the use of live streaming in shows
- CASE STUDY - successful campaign that has used digital technology, in depth analysis here
also need to think about if I'm going to talk about it in terms of luxury or high street, or a comparison, but this will come with research into the campaigns, and potentially speaking to marketing companies. If I decided to do a particular brand, will specify in question at later date.
- the use of events - such as Jean Paul Gaultier at the barbican which used barely any technology as received negative feedback, but events such as Dior at harrods and Pradasphere used a lot of technology and have been successful.
- conslusion - looks at trends in technology and what is to come - see how fashion promotion can be using this, and round up argument

This in conjunction with my question made a lot more sense and basis for discussing for the dissertation

JUNE 2014 /
READING BOOKS - making notes on important factors for each chapter and making note of vital info - case study material, strong arguments that back up my points - fashion was scared of technology in the beginning, Topshop's ex creative director

JULY 2014 /

FRIDAY 1ST AUGUST 2014 /
Refresh memory on the Dissertation Prep Unit -
Re-read Dissertation Synopsis which was handed in in May and read over the feedback

MONDAY 4TH AUGUST 2014 /
Researched into some more books that I thought might be helpful.
Found and ordered 'Fashion Promotion - Building a Brand Through Marketing and Communication'

After reading some samples online which I found helpful I decided to purchase the full book as I couldn't find an e-book version and thought if the bit I read was helpful, other parts of it may be too.

THURSDAY 7TH AUGUST 2014 /
I decided to write out each chapter title on a piece of A4 paper, so as i researched I could add and write things and when I come to write it I could just get the piece of paper and I had the basic of my chapter.

An Important thing I wanted to outline also was roughly how much each chapter has to be to make the 6-7,000 word mark. Aiming for 6,000, each chapter roughly must have 1,200 words give or take (including introduction and conclusion) depending if a chapter doesn't quite make this and then it be made up in others.

As one of the chapters is going to be a case study, focusing on one brand, I started to research into what brand and campaign I wanted to use

REFINE CHAPTER TITLES /
Before Digital Promotion
Brand Convergence
Case Study -
The Use of Events

WEDNESDAY 13TH AUGUST 2014 /

  3. The market is saturated with fashion blogs; do you think digital media has helped you gain followers in any way?
  4. Do you think you’d be where you are today if the Internet hadn’t become so influential in fashion?
  5. Do you think you’d be in a different career if the development of technology were any different?
  6. You get to go to fashion week quite often, do you think this is down to your blog?
  7. What do you make of live streaming, and brands teaming up with Google+ to create more innovative content for viewers? E.g Topshop
